Jazzmeia Horn Quartet

At the young and brittle age of 22, Jazzmeia “Jazz” Horn hailing from the great Dallas, Texas has already earned a reputation in New York City as a dynamic musician. Jazzmeia Horn has a name that speaks for itself, capturing her very essence. Jazzmeia is a passionate vocalist and she continues to receive accolades from top critics and musicians alike. Her soulful sound, understanding of the jazz idiom, and storytelling has earned her comparisons of classic vocalists, like Betty Carter, Sarah Vaughan, and Nancy Wilson. “Jazzmeia Horn is has one of the greatest sounds I’ve heard in 40 years.”    -Jon Hendricks
With the ambition to pursue a solo career, Jazzmeia moved to New York City Summer 2009 to Study at The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music. Shortly after, she had her first live radio appearance with Junior Mance at WBGO Radio Station in Newark, NJ Fall 2009. It wasn’t much later that she appeared with her quartet in several legendary jazz clubs citywide such as, The Metropolitan Room, The Blue Note, Dizzy’s Jazz Club, Smalls Jazz Club, Zinc, Bill’s Place, The Kitano, The Lenox Lounge, Minton’s Playhouse and The Jazz Standard. Jazzmeia has shared the stage with musicians such as, Billy Harper, Junior Mance, Winard Harper, Lincoln Center Alumni Vincent Gardner, Lafayette Harris, Delfeayo Marsalis, Johnny O’Neal, NEA Jazz Masters Frank Wess, Ellis Marsalis, and Jimmy Owens.
Recently, Jazzmeia was awarded “The Rising Star Award” in The Sarah Vaughan International Vocal Competition held at NJPAC in Newark, NJ. And also was selected into The Betty Carter Jazz Ahead Program March 2013, held at The Kennedy Center in DC. More recently, Jazzmeia won First Place Prize in the 2013 The Sarah Vaughan International Vocal Competition, hosted by WBGO and Jazz Root’s. Jazzmeia will be receiving her Degree from The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, May 2014. Currently, Jazzmeia is still appearing in various clubs around the globe with her own Quartet called ‘The Artistry of Jazz Horn’ as well as sideman appearances with Winard Harper, Brandon Sanders, and Billy Harper’s Voices. Her 2014 international touring schedule includes London, Ukraine, and Austria. She resides in Harlem, New York working on her latest unreleased album.
