Carlos Garnett Quartet

In 1968 he joined the Freddie Hubbard quintet. The first week with Freddie, he met Woody Shaw and they became very good friends. He composed two songs and recorded on Freddie Hubbard's SOUL EXPERIMENT, on Atlantic Records. Late in the 1969, Woody called Carlos for a job with Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers. They toured Japan for 2 months 1n 1970. Carlos recorded 2 albums with Art Blakey. LIVE AT THE BROADWAY THEATER,in Newwark, NJ. and  JVC; LIVE in Japan.

In the mid 70's. Carlos landed a gig with the Charles Mingus Sextet. Tommy Torrentine trt, Charles McPherson alto sax, Carlos on tenor, Jackie Byard on piano, Danny Richmond on drums and Charles on bass. While a member of Mingus' group, Carlos formed his second group called the UNIVERSAL BLACK FORCE. This group became very popular at the black colleges on the East Coast. Carlos recorded his very first album as a leader for Muse Records. The album is called 'BLACK LOVE', and is now considered a classic. He also did a stint with Norman Conners and recorded 4 albums.

The highlite in Carlos' career is when he became a member of the Miles Davis group in 1972-3, amd recorded on 4 of Miles' albums. 'ON THE CORNER', 'BIG FUN', 'GET UP WITH IT' and 'LIVE AT THE PHILHARMONIC'. Carlos recorded 5 albums as a leader.  BLACK LOVE, JOURNEY INTO ENLIGHTENMENT, LET THIS MELOFY RING ON, COSMO NUCLEUS and TRUE LOVE.... And 5 CDs. RESURGENCE, FUEGO EN MI ALMA, UNDER NUBIAN SKIES, MOON SHADOW. TAMBO JAZZ.  

Carlos has returned to his native land where he has a quartet and teaches. Carlos still travels the world and bring joy of his fantastic style to his followers!.
